Bluegrass Grill: A Family Favorite
Bluegrass Grill, just off of the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville, is a multiple time award-winning brunch spot, boasting a creative and diverse menu. The small dining room plays host to the after-church crowd, as well as the family who just can't get out the door early enough for actual breakfast, making it one of the premier places to grab brunch in Charlottesville. While it is a favorite, it's demographic is far closer to the culture of traditional brunches, giving it a traditional feel with a family charm.
Class
Unlike Beer Run, Bluegrass Grill has a customer base that falls into the higher portion of the American income equation.
With average prices for a meal and drink falling within the 17 dollar range, families that fall within the lowest quarter of American income are completely blockaded from the customer base of Bluegrass Grill.
Families falling into the next tier of American income are also discouraged from eating at Bluegrass Grill by higher prices, as even the cheapest meal comes dangerously close to fufilling their entire daily budget for food, according to a Gallup poll showing that families falling in the lower half of American income spend about $12-14 dollars a day on food, meaning that dining at Bluegrass Grill just is not plausible within the income perameters of the lower class.
This means that the customer base of Bluegrass Grill is made up almost entirely of middle to high class individuals and families, which is much closer to traditional brunch culture of the past, made up of wealthy families that would pay for a large spread of meat, cheese, fruit and alcohol after a day's hunt.
Middle and upper class families spend anywhere from $17-$34 a day on food, making every familiy within the upper half of the income statistics able to afford a meal at Bluegrass Grill.
While the cost of Bluegrass falls inside the budget of the average college student, college students are conspicuously absent from the customer base, as Bluegrass Grill finds much of its customer base from the handing down of a tradition of Sunday Bluegrass brunch from one family member to another.
All factors considered, it is easy to see why the customer base is the way that it is.
