Beer Run: A Charlottesville Favorite
Beer Run, located at Carleton and Market St. has been a staple in the Charlottesville brunch scene for years. It's location, menu, and atmosphere give Beer Run a diverse demographic in the areas of age, economic status, social habits and race. Each demographic has been broken down in an in-depth analysis, and then the over-arching culture is looked at as a whole.
Culture
By catering to the college crowd, Beer Run creates a laid back, youthful, and fun atmosphere that encourages exploration in food and alcohol. Brunch has evolved from a culture that revolved around the affluent who could afford an expensive spread of food and drink, but by creating a menu that is diverse in prices and taste, Beer Run has worked to redfine brunch culture as we know it today.
The culture at Beer Run is much different than traditional brunch values. The culture at Beer Run is one of middle class values and amateur craft beer afficianados, a far cry from the mimosa sipping, caviar munching habits of traditional brunchers and an even farther cry from the brunching days of old.
The culture at Beer Run encourages spending little to recieve a lot, and breaks from traditional values by replacing the typical beverage menu with craft beers.
Beer Run also seperates itself from traditional brunch culture by seperating itself from family values. By being a bit inconvenient for families, brunch becomes a sort of safe haven for hungover college kids trying to escape the judgemental eyes of parents and kids alike, and becomes a venue for Sunday morning dates for young couples in the Charlottesville area.
Beer Run strays from the culture of traditional brunch by offering many new twists on the traditional ideal brunch, offering more modern courses such as the Very Berry French Toast Strata and by offering beer with breakfast.
Unlike its competitor, Bluegrass Grill, Beer Run is working to redefine the idea of brunch, and by doing so, has created a new and progressive brunch culture that has easily been adopted by the younger demogrpahic in the charlottesville area.
